Long story short I picked up an old "non running" cobia yesterday spent all evening chasing down electrical junk and when I finally got it all sorted and hooked up to the hose I realized that the cables are SUPER tight and the previous owner has broken the little cam dealy in the controls. will any old johnson/evinrude control shift cable work or do I need a specific model for throttle/shift?

On a good note cleaned the carbs up fresh gas and a little seafoam and she fired up after a little manual choke action, as a side note I dont see a choke solenoid is there supposed to be one? I have a general evinrude book for the period but it doesnt contain specifics for my motor.

All help on this is duly appreciated.

Thanks

Just go to your local dealer with the dimensions and get them brand new. They are cheap. I wouldnt bother putting used cables on. They are just generic cables.

Here is your parts manual.

If you haven't worked on that before the control can be a pistol to re-assemble if you try to put it back together in the wrong order....The little ball and spring makes it tough to put back in the exact way you took it apart. I did this once last year and didn't bother to read my manual for that part until I had wasted an hour. If you need to one of us can help you on that if you need it. If need be I can scan and email you some pages out of my manual. Might not be able to do it until after the holidays as I am off work and have no scanner at home.
