Control Linkage diagram

Does anyone know where I can get a diagram (online) of the control linkage at the motor for a 70's Evinrude 70HP? I recently installed a 70HP Evinrude and have the linkage messed up. When I shift into forward by boat goes backwards.

Now that's a wierd one. Is it an Evinrude Control? Some, such as Morse, can work both ways according to which way the shift lever (inside the control) is oriented.

Just go to evinrude.com and look up the parts manuals. You'll see the two linkages for the early 70's 70 hp and the later one.

An OMC control probably can't be reversed, depending on which one you have, but if someone has put an early lower unit on the motor and kept the later powerhead linkage - or vise versa - it'll shift backwards.

Can I just reverse the cables at either the motor linkage or the control box??

...Some history on the motor...I just purchased it with the controls from a guy who said he replaced the water pump. Unfortunetly, I don't know much about it. Can I purchase the other linkage if a newer LU was placed on an older powerhead?
