control panel switch lites on all the time

I have aux buttons on the right side of my instrument panel and the are on all the time when I connect the main positive cable from the battery to the starter I have recently installed a engine i guess I mess up on the alt or starter most likely altenator am i correct???? any else ever have this problem I know its simple to take things off till they turn off but I'm just asking to save time .. and on a 86 4.3 thurderbolt iv i have 2 white and green wires going to the interupt switch jumper should one be going to the distributor???

It sounds like you have the 'lighting' hooked up directly to the ignition or some other 'hot' all the time wire (like bilge pump power). <br />Bad. <br />Get a testlight or multimeter, retrace your steps and set it right. When in doubt, write stuff down or take pictures.

most lighted switches require you to connect negative to the "light" terminal (mine are marked L). If that wire was connected to positive instead of negative, it could work like it is now. Heres a quick diagram i drew up to help you figure it out. (Don't laugh at its crudeness) :rolleyes: <br />

I got it the wires were crossed like I thought on the altenator all set thanks
