Control/shifter Cable

I am unsure of what length cable to order?...I recently purchased a 1987 Galaxy Admrial 189 (18ft). The issue that I am having is that the control/shifter cable going from the throttle to the top of the engine seems to be extending/retracting too far and is now broken. When I put the throttle in forward or reverse the control/shifter cable moves about 1" however the shifter bracket only moves about a 1/4". Both cables from the Hi-Lex throttle are the same...on the cable it is stamped "13 ft 04 13 87". Do I order the same cable and make adjustments or do I need to order a different cable? Please help thank you!

Re: Control/shifter Cable

Okay, I will order the same cable. Thank you. So, how do I fix/adjust the throttle? The throttle will not go into idle forward/reverse...it will only move less than 1/4 of the way to idle forward/reverse then stop. To me, it seems the control/shifter cable stops the throttle from moving any further because the shift bracket on top of the engine only moves about a 1/4".

Re: Control/shifter Cable

If you are trying to move the the throttle/shifter without the engine running, stop doing that. That's what probably screwed up the cable in the first place. Clutch dogs in the lower unit must be aligned with the notches in the gears before the shifter can be moved fully to forward/reverse. If you feel you must do this, have someone turn the prop by hand while you move the lever.

I will definitely stop moving the throttle/shifter...thank you for your help! I was changing out the bellows and found the lower shifter cable was locked up...so I am replacing it now.....
