Controls for a tiller motor

Hi all. I have a 2002 jhonson 40hp J40RLSNF It's a tiller motor with the shifter on the front no electric start. I would like to change it over to a remote motor. I see that I can get the steering kit so that's no trouble but my question is does anyone know if the control cables will hook up to the motor without and speical brackets? And would any set of OMC controls work?

seeing they do not show a conversion kit, i would say any control/ cables from 1979 to 2005 would work.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will find an old cable and try it out before I go and drop the money on new ones. Thanks again.
