Converging ring install?

Hello, I have a 1976 Evinrude 15hp. Trying to install a factory converging ring on original prop. Any tips or tricks? Having a little difficulty thx.

Lay the prop on a good flat bench Then set the ring on It Then put a good piece of plywood on it. After that give the plywood a good rap with a big hammer right in the center of it, this should install the ring on the prop.
