Re: conversation starter, which long shaft outboard
I see the Sunstar 18 is a pocket cruiser sailboat. 6HP is plenty for that boat. I used to run a 4HP on my Catalina 22' for what is referred to as a "kicker". If it's 2 cylinder that would be nice too but it may only be a 1 cylinder. Now if it's a 4 stroke that's even better because you will use gas for fuel without having to mix oil as in a 2 stroke. Also, the 4 stoke will be quieter and smoother, qualities you want in a sailboat. As to shaft length, longshafts are common for sailboats and an extra long shaft will be nice for when you are in choppy water. The boat pitching up and down with waves can lift a shorter motor nearly clear of the water, up and down, in and out. My guess is from the way you describe the ad the seller is quite proud of the motor as it is probably a nice fit to the boat.
