I am running a 1976 Grady White with a 140 hp in- line 4 OMC Stringer electric shift. I will be replacing the alternator, 2 wire unit( excite wire from the ignition, large orange wire off the BAT post to the ammeter, then splits to the ignition switch for power.) The "I" post of the ammeter comes from the battery connection at the starter. My question is, how will I wire the single wire alternator? I figure it goes directly to the battery, but how do I get power to the dashboard and how should I wire in the ammeter? Is it necesary? I am already running a volt meter as well. What guage wire would be recommended for power feeds?<br />Thanks.
