Just picked up this great boat on Thursday and was wondering if it is possible to convert the stock 12v trolling motor setup to 24v without too much problem?

You would need a 24 volt trolling motor, a 12 volt motor on 24 might run for a minute, and poof!

Assuming you now have one battery for the outboard and one for the trolling motor (and "House" loads), you'd need a 3rd battery, but its a bad idea to put a new battery in series (or parallel) with an old one, so you might end up buying 2 new batteries.

then you'd need a charger set up for the 3 batteries. You probably already have a 2 battery charger in the boat. Most likely that can be used for the trolling motors then just use a single battery charger for the outboard starter battery.

There are some 12/24 v rated trolling motors. You may or may not have one. If not, then you need a trolling motor that is made to handle 24 v.

Usually the trolling motor power is split from all the rest of the electric system. But someone may have changed that.... So you need to ensure you are not linking the 24v to the 12v systems.

The boat right now does have one battery to crank the motor and one battery for the existing 12 volt trolling motor. I do have a nice 24 volt trolling motor puled from my other boat so that won't be an issue. The wiring is separate and I do understand that I need a second battery.

I was just wanting to make sure that I would not need to add any kind of link or additional wiring. if not than that is any fix.

Does your 24 volt motor have a three wire plug? What is the make and model of the 24 volt motor? That information may determine what you need to do to change the wiring over to work.

The existing motor is a Motorguide (4 prong plug) my 24volt is a Minnkota (2 or 3 prong). I will have to get a 4 prong and replace the existing one on the Minnkota correct?
