Just purchased my first boat.Would like to know how to convert from a points and condensor system to electronic ignition

You might look into a PerTronix ignition with a flame-thrower coil. One note, if you go that rout you may need to replace the resistance wire with copper wire. Best check with the manufacturer. Good luck.
p.s. I tried it, did not work well for me, kept the Flame-Thrower though. Others have had better luck.

A better question is why switch? You won't get a big noticeable difference. So why spend the money. Points are tried and true and you can make an adjustment out on the water if necessary.

Many years ago I constructed a CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) unit for my Mercruiser 165. The unit used the existing points, but just as the switch for the CDI. The engine started easier, ran smoother, used less fuel and the spark plugs lasted longer.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who wants to change an outdated system to modern electronics, has my blessing and any support I can offer...
