my truck has a air compresser under the hood but no tank is mounted at this time. I have an older propane saddle tank (mounts to the frame rails) its about 5 foot long and 1 foot in diameter.
can that be used for air?
probably will not be used for anything over 110 psi.
thanks

Problem is that propane tanks don't have condensation drains so one would have to be added.

Problem is that propane tanks don't have condensation drains so one would have to be added.

The tank would have to be emptied and purged by flowing at least 10 changes of air through it. The vent must be near the bottom (liquid out line would be fine).

If it's at least 1/4 inch thick, you can drill and tap a 1/8 in pipe thread hole in the bottom of it for a drain. If it's thinner, you'd need to weld a threaded fitting to it. They are readily available for manufacturers. I could get one for you if you need it. You could make one also, a disk of metal with a pipe thread hole through it.

The Butyl Mercaptan odorant is another issue. You should be able to wash it out with several rinses of soap and water.

What's the air for? I'm thinking "Train Horn".

hope it helps

Re: convert propane tank to air

we picked up a f350 super duty flat deck a couple of years back to haul around material, and it came with a hd compresser under the hood (it came off the oil fields and was a service truck).
so now that I have a little time on my hands I want to hook it up to blow fish line down conduit.
I also have a corner mount hydroulic capstan that I would like to hook up, but I need to find a pump and tank, do they make a pto style for zf trannys?
oh ya the tank has all the drains etc as it was built for mounting horizontal on vehicles.
thanks
