Convert scraper blade to grader.

I have a 60" scraper blade that mounts on the 3 point of my Kubota B2150. I can't use it to level rough ground because the tractor bobs up and down, bobbing the scraper. :| Same thing happens with the box blade

My field mower (Bush Hog) has a trailing wheel that keeps it from grounding on rough ground.

What if I mounted a trailing wheel a couple of feet behind the scraper blade and didn't connect the top link when I mounted it? Could I then use it like a grader to smooth off rough ground or to spread gravel?

Anybody tried this? How did it work?

At that point it would seem that you could achieve the same result by simply dragging a large piece of metal like an "I" beam behind the tractor and probably be a lot cheaper that a bogy wheel. I used to live in an area that had gravel roads and we had to do the maintence so we got a large I beam and welded a clevis on each side toward the ends and just put a chain through it and pulled it with a tractor or jeep. It was fairly surprising what a nice job you could do with it as far as smoothing or spreading gravel. ;)

Here is what you need. It floats behind the tractor.

Can't you spin it around and push it in reverse? That will give you a fighting chance. Look at a york rake set up, the wheels on some are mounted after the blade and all the weight is on the blade.

Re: Convert scraper blade to grader.

I have already modified it for adjustable tilt and swivel, Bob. To spin it 180* would require further modification. I can drag the front loader bucket and get decent results with loose gravel or sand, but I am dealing with mostly dry clay that was plowed 15 years ago.

One of the things I want to do with it is clear the borrow ditches along my drive to keep gravel and a crown on the drive and keep runoff in the ditches (if it ever rains again).

I still like the bogey wheel idea. I was hoping someone had already done it and could report results.

Last resort would be to run the tiller over the ground. It usually leaves a smooth path, but it is sloooooow going and I need to level about 10 acres.

Re: Convert scraper blade to grader.

I would reccomend checking in at www.tractorbynet.com JB. I frequent that board also. My blade (72" on Mahindra 5500) angles side to side and spins around. I still have a hard time getting it to work right. If it had a side to side tilt on it it might help but I doubt it. So far your best advice is the big I-beam. I used to have several of them chained together and they woprked real well at moving loose soil/gravel into the right places.
