I replaced my old 12/24v motorguide with a 24v model. Manual shows the two batteries in series with a + and - running to the bow plug. My existing bow plug has one - and two + (one from each battery) to the plug. The batteries are tied together in series. The TM plug is a three prong plug and it has 12v on two of the prongs. Do the two 12v prongs provide 24v to the trolling motor or should I be getting 24V on each prong?

If what you say about how your batteries are currently configured, they are definitely NOT connected in series. If there is only one ground wire and the grounds are tied together at the battery, that is NOT series connection.

How old is this 24 volt model? For 24 volt operation, a 24 volt motor needs only two wires. If it is a combination 12 and 24 volt model then it would have three or even four. Don't know why the trolling motor cable would have three wires but if you are positive it is a 24 volt only model then one might assume one of the wires is ground and the other two each provide 12 volts to the motor. The motor would need to be wound very differently than the current crop of 24 volt motors which only require two wires and a series connection at the battery which looks like this.
