Converting 1986 9.9 to tiller control

My 1986 9.9 is electric start and remote steering. I want to convert it back to tiller. I see from the parts diagram that 1986 was the first year they went to a cable control in the tiller. 1986-1987 all have the same part number. Question is other than location of kill switch is there a difference in the tiller handles from 88-90? They have a different part number, but from my understanding the differnce is 86-87 hane a kill switch and 88-90 have a man overboard switch.
