As the thread states, I have the correct bracket located, and I have a starter laying around, it is a Prestolite MDO4102M 12 volt...
I have looked online and I see vague references to it may work. It has 11 teeth as it is supposed to. Will this starter work in this application?

Thanks

Richard

the 25 hp. electric start of that model year uses an 11 tooth gear and I have a 71 25 hp. that beeen converted to electric start, tiller handle, and it uses the 11 tooth as well..the starter on mine has the 4102 on it but the letters are missing..so I can't say positively that it will, but I'd sure lean heavily in the direction that it will

I've got a 73 fastwin 18hp that I'm looking to do the same thing to. And I've also found that the 11 tooth is what I'm going to get. I don't see anything with less on it that I've looked for. So the lowest I would purchase for a starter would be a 10-11 tooth starter.

Already have the bracket found on ebay. pretty pricey. The starter should be slightly cheaper. Next would be to find a solenoid.. but I haven't even started looking for one as I have no idea what I'm looking for there either. My final step is going to be installing a deadman/kill safety switch or what ever its called.

My final step for the motor is going to be steering as I have the control box already. Just can't decide if I want to go old school, pullys and cables or something newer like teleflex; probably still buy used though cause of cost.

Bolt or hold it in place and raise the bendix and see.
