I am inheriting a 5 year old 17 foot aluminum Starcraft configured as a fishing boat with raised front deck, swivel fishing chairs etc. Boat has 40 merc 4 stroke with 10 hrs on it and has been winterized and stored in a Maine barn unused for 5 years.

I would like to convert this boat to a bow rider. Can I simply remove raised front deck and replace with bow rider style seating hopefully with parts that can be ordered directly from Starcraft? Or is there substantially more work involved in this type conversion?

I am assuming......big risk in assuming.....that Starcraft made 1 hull and offered it in various configurations

Appreciate any and all suggestions

Might be cheaper in the long run to just get a runabout from the get-go. You don't say where you are in Florida, but here's one for sale in the St. Pete area. I've seen the ad a couple times and considered the boat, but I'm looking for a fishing vessel, not a pleasurecraft.

You might want to check around for similar deals in your area.

BWR have you looked at that add thats not a bow rider its a closed bow boat .

Gramps I would say it wouldnt be that hard to convert it over to a bow rider if thats what you want look around here or google Starcraft Super Sport as thats what they called the bow riders.

The ad lists the boat as a bowrider. Write to the advertiser to complain. Ugh.

Gramps, did you end up opening the bow? I have the same idea in mind, but know nothing about the way the boat was built and if opening the bow would be safe. Let me know, please, if you found any further information about doing this type of a project or if you did it yourself. I'd greatly appreciate it!

Welcome to iboats..

This is a post that is over 18 months old and no one has seen gramps since then.........

Take a look here at the "partial list" of starcraft restorations....... we have had a few member's who have taken a saw to a closed bow.
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288451 Look at item 9

I will close this post since it is so old and if you see gramps make sure he is okay, taking his medication and tell him he is missed ;)
