Converting from (CDI) distributor to magneto Distributor?? Can it be done?

I have a 1974 Mercury 850 Serial #4100979<br />has the Thunderbolt battery CD ignition, with the trigger in the distributor. I was wondering if it was possible to use a Distributor-Magneto Setup from a Eariler 4 cylinder Mercury 4 Cylinder (Mark 30?) in place of the existing distributor?(Eliminating eliminating the Electronic ignition)

I'm just wondering if anybody knows if an old distributor magneto setup from an older mercury 4 cylinder will fit in where the existing automotive style distributor is?

Sleepy, you are stuck....nuthin merc made will fit in place of that distributor....with age of these units going up, and value going down, you and many others are finding the repair costs hard to choke down....

They look so similar though <br /><br />so I'm seeing used Chrysler Motors pretty inexpensively in running order?<br /><br />I'm just looking for well, a solution<br />any suggestions on how to simplify the Battery CD ignition?

Just remove the dist and see if the mounting brackets will match on the other dist.

Well, I don't actually have the magneto assembly yet, but I am thinking of buying it, thats why I was wondering if it would fit, thanks for the advice though
