Converting Starcraft Holiday to center console

Hi

I have done a complete restoration of a Starcraft 1968 run about. I took it all apart, sprayed in new foam, put down a double floor, put a 28 gallon fuel tank forward, sprayed the sides with rhino to dampen the noise, primed and painted the out side, put sealer on the outside and inside, put in a new 2005 Merc IO in it, etc. It came out really nice.

The problem is I would like a center console. Rather than sell it, I will never get the 20K I put into it, I thought that I would make a center console out of it. Looking at different CC that Starcraft has made, I settled on the design of around 1977. This design leave a bit of the front deck on. I need that deck as I have mounted an anchor windlass on it.

I guess my questions is has anybody done this.

I am new to the forum, I will try to attach photos of the boat.

That one is WAY WAY too cherry to hack up. You did a heck of a nice job on it.

I am all for hacking up boats and making what you want out of them.

But, I am with EZ here. I'd leave that one be to enjoy they way she is!

Grab yourself a super cheap hull to rebuild into a CC!

I agree,... That's an awlfully Nice barge to butcher...

Alotta work receating the structure to support the bow too...

Find yerself another project boat, like ya want on craigslist or somethin'...

Thanks for the sites of rebuilt Starcraft Boats. The problem with that is I have to start all over. I will never be able to get the money out that I put into it. I suppose if I could get 18k of so for it I would have the money to start over. I also have a 1968 McKee Craft that I rebuilt. More than 2 boats and my wife would throw me out.

Welcome aboard, and a very nice boat. Man I would not want to hack that thing up, just way to nice. But as you said, really doubt that you will get that kind of cash out of the boat no matter how nice it is. I am with the crowd of getting another boat cheap and doing it the way you want it. Would be really hard for me to hack something up that I put that much work into that is for sure. Good luck with whichever way you go bud.

Very nice boat, you have done great work

I like the idea of a center console rig too, but that Holiday is pristine, tough call.

Not many I/O CC Starcrafts out there, it would be unique.

WWA, nice boat! What would the real advantage be to converting that boat to a center console? Maybe a little more deck space? I'm wondering if that conversion would destroy the value of the boat.

Why is it you "think" you want a CC? I ask this because small CCs waste a tremendous amount of space and are only useful in some parts of the country and for some kinds of fishing. No place for people to sit, everybody is exposed to the weather, not much storage, hard to move around on the boat, etc.

I feel like I'm going against the grain here....but.....Would you really need to "hack up" much of the resto just to add a console? You obviously have the skills to do the job and you can purchase consoles ready to install so I guess the issue would be relocating everything to the center of the boat, through the floor.

Besides, EZ was biting his lip when he said that cause he saw the i/o. He wouldnt mind seeing you "hack it up".

I would build my own center console. That would give me enough room to walk around. I will take out the captains chair, giving me that room. I will leave the two seats on either side of the engine box. It will actually give me room to put another seat in the front. I now have one SS deck chair that I use, now I can put in two. I have a 28 gal tank in the floor forward, that should take the weight forward.
Having that tank there now works well. It keeps the nose of the boat down. I only go out on nice days so having an open boat is an advantage.

I'm all for it! I was thinking about doing the same thing with my Holiday but I wanted to get her on the water as fast as possible, so I decided not to. I will say the obvious though, if you do this, make sure you WANT to do this and not just THINK you want to. You have a great boat there and I'd hate to see you tear it apart and realize you've made a mistake.
