Re: converting to a 4 barrel
Probably but switching to a 4 barrel intake and carb won't gain you anything. The motor is a system, changing one part of the system to gain efficiency "might" get you 5-10hp at redline...not even worth repropping for plus the loss in fuel consumption makes this mod a no win situation.
The best way to gain performance in a marine engine is with an increase in displacement unless your willing to re-engineer the entire engine system...exhaust...cam...etc.
Don't waste your time...its been done a hundred times before and most people put the stock parts back on. Don't forget the stock exhaust on a marine engine is a huge restriction on the system and freeing up the intake does virtually nothing but drink more fuel.
Most guys I seen put a AL 4 barrel intake on a marine engine spend a small fortune on the parts then months tuning for little to no gain in performance on the water, with a boat you need exponential gains in power to equate linear gains in speed.
If you want more speed, punch the motor out or stroke it, the torque increase off the bottom will give you some more punch out of the hole and the increase in torque up top will let you pull a longer prop.
There is a reason why fast boats have big engines, torque baby!
