Hey gang,

So I recently fixed a stator issue on this Johnson 40hp adn it started right back up but when I took her out to run it she just didn't seem right and my feeling was right because she gave me a squeal and quit... I gave the flywheel an turn and it turns but feels pretty stiff along with it being able to move up and down (tell tale sign of a bad lower crankshaft bearing) I popped the head and to my excitement found metal bits and some pretty bad score (the kind you can catch nail on). My question is where to go from here. Do I buy another used one or should I have this one rebuilt with a blown bearing there's no telling what goodies have been wrecked internally till it gets split open. A local marine shop said they could do a rebuild for around 2k but I've never been in this situation before so I'm not sure what the best option would be or if anyone has some suggestions or advice that would be great or even some leads on may be a used running engine that would be comparable for an easy swap. Any help is good help.

Thanks,

Need to find out what happened before deciding.-------Lots of good used ones around.-----Or a do it yourself " rebuilt powerhead " off the shelf.
