Local craigslist ad had a 1976 Chrysler 15hp outboard for sale. I go to look at it and it looks to be in very nice condition. The owner tells me his uncle bought it and a jon boat for him and his brother to cruise the lake when they were kids. The motor had not been started since 1985. Fortunately his uncle was meticulous about maintenance. I cleaned/gapped points and she fired right up and idled like a champ. A few hours later i installed a new impeller as well. I paid him his asking price of 400 bux since it was in such great shape and because he also included the original gas "Chrysler Tote Tank" which had been stored dry. Even the lines and "bubble" worked perfectly like new. He also included a blue zip up motor bag/cover that has the word CHRYSLER on the side which was originally purchased with the motor in 1976. I know a lot of people dont like Chrysler and wouldnt pay 400 bux but I feel like I got a very fair deal. Here is a vid from its first run at the lake yesterday.

If you consider what you would have to pay for a used late model 15HP motor that runs as well as that, I'd say you got a decent motor for your money. They usually go for almost twice what you paid.

Around here, 400 would be a little pricey for that engine. However, considering the extras you received with it and considering it runs extremely well, you really didn't get hurt. The main factor is: Are you happy with it. If you are pleased with your purchase, then you got a good deal. Have fun with it!

Points taken by all. I am happy and that is what is important. The guy said OBO but I didn't haggle as he undersold the condition of everything in the ad and we both got what we wanted. Hopefully I will be that rare (according to the internet) that ends up loving Chrysler ;)

Mate I know your pain LOL I too love Chryslers, I too was lucky enough to buy a immaculate 100hp for $350, it was a 1979 and I miss it to this day even though it's only been two weeks . BTW the old fella above you FRank A is a guru with the old girl Chryslers, he and others here had mine running too 41MPH. I was proud to show off my big boxxy engine still has style to me. The news ones look sleak but I bet they don't last as long as these babies. GOOD LUCK fellow Chrysler owner never be shy to pm me

Thankyou sir! I took it out to lake Allatoona today. I am amzed that it runs so well after sitting so long. it just goes to show you that if you winterize, you can wait 28 years and it will fire right up.
