Coolant cap blew - what are chances of damage?

My seawater pump seized, and I overtemped within 60secs of sieze, and cap blew on heat exchanger releasing pressure. I shutdown engine within 30 seconds of cap blow.

What are chances of a head warp?

Waiting on new seawater pump, and circulation pump while I'm at it before I start a run test.

Oil not foamy, and engine was not misfiring just before the cap blow.

Should I start checkout with a compression test before run test?

You most likely burned the rubber exhaust hoses.

As for the motor, do a compression test and cooling system pressure test. You should be fine, however should check

How long has your raw water pump seal been leaking to cause the bearing to sieze?

Yeah, newbie salt water boater here. Have had boat a year and only a couple hour long trips so far. Boat is kept on racks and was winterized - Puget Sound. The seawater pump is probably the original from 1993. I did not notice any weeping of pump, it seeming to sieze all at once. I did hear some intermittent squeals. I probably missed the signs. Engine dropped revs just before cap blow. I haven't checked yet, but it may be just the impeller destructed. No entry of pump or impeller change in maint records. Engine has 525 hrs. I should have replaced both pumps right away when I bought it. Gonna get a flow alarm sensor.

being a salt water boat, impeller change every 2 years, drive removal for gimble bearing and u-joint inspection every year, bellows replacement every 2 years, and manifold/elbow replacment every 5 years. about every 2 years, the raw water intake fitting will need to be changed as well.

if you have a heat exchanger, then no, the engine circulating pump most likely will never need replacing.

Thanks, copy all. That will be my plan. I'm thinking maybe the circ pump is ok. Will know later next week when I take a look at it all.

Don't forget to check the manifolds & risers unless you know when they were changed last.
VP engines with the closed system usually have only a half system unless it was specially fitted with a full system.Meaning that the manifolds are raw water cooled.
Clogged manifolds and risrrs can also cause overheating
