Hi,

I have a strange issue with engine temperature. When idling the gauge indicates 220 degrees. When revving beyond aprox. 2500RPM the gauge readings drop. This would indicate a overheating engine at idle. I took the boat out with the IR gun. Below i posted the results;

- new tstat (160)
- new impeller
- new tstat housing

Lakewater temp: 46F/8C

1000RPM:

Temp gauge indication: 220F/104C
IRgun at temp sensor: 151F/66C
IRgun at cilinderhead: 151F/66C
IRgun at tstat housing: 151F/66C
IRgun exhaust manifold: 92F/30C
IRgun Riser: 77F/25C

Conclusion: Real engine temperature about right. Indicates a bad gauge or sender?

2500RPM:

Temp gauge indication: 190F/88C
IRgun at temp sensor: 120F/49C
IRgun at cilinderhead: 127F/53C
IRgun at tstat housing: 122F/50C
IRgun exhaust manifold: 93F/34C
IRgun Riser: 81F/27C

Conclusion: A little drop in engine temp. under higher RPM is to be expected maybe but this seems to much. Still indicates a faulty gauge or sender but also new tstat stuck open or blocked bypass in new tstatt housing?

WOT:

Temp gauge indication: 130F/54C
IRgun at temp sensor: 104F/40C
IRgun at cilinderhead: 104F/40C
IRgun at tstat housing: 104F/40C
IRgun exhaust manifold: NA
IRgun Riser: NA

Conclusion: Engine running really cold. New tstat stuck open? Gauge reading still off.

Endconclusion: Temp gauge, sender or cables faulty. Enginetemp at idle good and steady which points to the tstat working properly. Engine temp drops dramatically when RPMs increase which points to a tstat stuck open or bypass in tstat housing blocked. Both tstat and tstat housing are new. Bypass is clean.

This conclusion seems contradictory. Im i missing something? Do you guys have any suggestions?
