cooling problem

I had my 1975 Evinrude up at the lake today, and I have a few issues with it. First, I cheaped out, and didnt rebuild the carbs, so it runs like crap..... (no kidding dummy). I have the kits on the way for this, so no issues. Second, is that even though I replaced the impeller in the water pump, I am not getting any water to the powerhead. I have already pulled the thermostat, and am waiting on a replacement, but are there any other ways to test the pump itself to ensure that I'm not gonna make another wasted trip to the lake. I had it on muffs earlier, and while they leaked, the engine still didnt circulate water (we figured it was just poor seal on the muffs..... oops) Will there be any disadvantage to hooking a hose up to the water pipe inside the neck and flushing it with water there to check for a blockage??

Re: cooling problem

re-checked the pump, replaced the base gasket, and grommet, and all is well with the cooling system. New t-stat helped as well.

Re: cooling problem

Gent's I need your help!!! I have 100HP 1991 4 cylinder Mariner that does not pee. I have pulled out the thermostat and replaced the impeller and still no pee. I even pulled out the pop-it valve and ran it with out it. Still no pee. The motor runs cool on the muffs and idles all day without getting hot, but no pee ever comes out. I did get it to pee out the little hole in the pop-it valve, thermostat cover when they were not in, but the cover was on. So what gives????
