Had to make a 45 degree bend in hose for motor, cut hose in half and used a copper 45 used for house plumbing. This hose supplies the motor with water for cooling (salt). Havent taken boat out yet or fired it up, wondering if this is a bad idea using copper in saltwater!

Copper should last awhile, but plastic would not corrode at all.

I know that it will tarnish and turn green, I just need it to keep its strength and not turn brittle on me.

will work for a bit. but you need to bond it to the block with a pice of 14 or 10 gauge wire. brass will last longer and home depot is full of brass fittings, bronze is even better.

Ever wonder why many old sailing vessels had copper bottoms?

yep they did.<br /> however not many many marina's and fewer boats had shore power then, and the sheets had to be replaced periodically. but it helped keep the worms down. that plus the fact that copper is a natural biocide.
