Should the slots on one side of the bearing face the engine or the outdrive?

Don, I'm in the middle of replacing my gimble bearing on an sx-m out drive and just realized I installed it backwards. Does it make a difference? I didn't find any mention in my manuals regarding the gimble bearing going in a certain way - just the lube hole lining up with the extension tube. If it must be in with the slots towards the engine, I'll definitely pull it and install correctly.
