I have a 4hp Evinrude model E4RDHEIA. There are two dealers in my city. One had a part # for the rewind spring, but didn't have it in stock. The other had a different part # Bombardier 312932 which they had in stock and insisted was correct.

After installing the Bomardier spring, I found that it worked, but rewound slowly and sometimes needed a second pull to get the cord in all the way.

Do I have the correct part?

Thanks.

It could well be you did not wind the spring tight enough on assembly, thats what it sounds like.

That is the correct part number. What did you lubricate it with?

Pull the cord out about 1-1/2 foot, jam the starter so that it cannot rewind, then manually loop the starter cord around the starter pulley and back securely into the handle.
