Re: Correct size socket..

I think I used a 1/4" box wrench, and had to grind it a bit thinner, so it would fit. BTW - You need to replace those bolts, rather that reuse them. If you reuse those bolts, there is a real chance they will fail and cause the motor to throw a rod. Don't ask how I know..... On the older Mercs, connecing rod bolts and lock nuts may be reused....

Re: Correct size socket..

Ive decided to not remove them nd go the old style route of installing all 6 cylinders at the same time. I have replaced all rings and 3 cylinders already. I have a buddy coming to help me.

on a side note: Chris I greatly appreciate your input on these forums, i am sure im not alone on this. As always thank you for your help and advice!!

You need to purchase 6 special ring compressors from mercury to do all 6 at a time .....

No sirs.. big hose clamps and strips of pop/beer can worked just fine. ;)

There are a few methods where the special merc tool isnt needed.

So you needed to drink a beer everytime you wanted to install a piston? Well that does spread it out a bit...
