hi everyone,
i just recieved a newr johnson 8.0 model number j8rst5 from a friend of mine for free because he had to get rid of it. he never used it it was just sitting in his garage and then he passed it off to me. i was wondering the correct way to start this motor. there is a pull choke i believe and there is a warning sticker saying make sure in nuetral when you start. there is a gray lever that switches into 3 positions and then the hand throttle which has a spinning knob thing at the end. im new to this motor since i have alswys used and old 2.3 nissan to troll around.
please help

The lever center position is neutral, the forward position is forward and the rear position is reverse. Pull the choke and try a couple of times, if it starts push the choke in slowly as it runs smoothly, if it doesn't start push choke in so as not to flood it. The little button thing on the end of the tiller is the E-stop, it should have a little plastic gismo that holds it out. In case of emergency pull it and it will shut off the motor immediately.
