what the best way to hopefully slow down/reduce the corrosion and pitting that is occurring on the of the aluminum part of the trim ram assembly. it sits in salt water. anodes are all in good shape and there is nobody docked nearby. its not leaking but if i don't do something it will.

thx

I always spray my entire tilt/trim assembly including motor, pump, rams, with white spray lithium grease. Once it sets up on there it protects very well and you can re-apply every now and then. My motor is a 1999 and the tilt/trim is like new, under the grease coating.

Yamaha makes a Spray On Protective Coating, but like most of their stuff, it ain't cheap, so I just get the spray grease at Autozone or Advance Auto and it's much cheaper and works real well. Any brand of spray on lithium grease should work fine. Clean all the rust, corrosion and deposits off as much as possible before you spray it. Good Luck!

Also, be careful not to spray grease on your zinc anodes on the lower part of your motor bracket.

add a slab of zinc as close as possible to the problem area. make sure to contact bare metal. zinc on top of paint and/or painted zinc does nothing. figure out which piece of stainless is the culprit and - if possible - paint the SS it to reduce its galvanic activity.

thx, i removed and cleaned the zinc in the very bottom. then applied a good coating of lithium spray grease and will keep an eye on it . the lower part of the trim ram assembly sits in salt water all the time unlike newer boats which are mostly out of the water.
