Cosmetic Patch for fiberglass boat

I restored a 1971 crestliner fiberglass tri-hull last year. It has an out board. In order to replace the transom I had to cut the back part of the top cap off so I could pull the splash well off to get at the transom. I could not just pull off the top cap in 1 piece because the top and bottom were stapled together and removing the stales destroyed the fiberglass which the rub rail got seated on).

Putting the cap back on I put some glass and resin over the cut (see the attached pictures). This is a high use area, it is used for the ladder a lot and people sit on the wall when we are at anchor so it takes some stresses. As you can tell it is pretty ugly, and I would like to try and cover it up with something. Friends have suggested bending pieces of diamond plate and attaching it, others suggested pieces of carpet. Now I turn to the pros, what are your guys suggestions? I can sand it all out and redo it, but maybe someone has an awesome idea that will save me the pain and rash!

Re: Cosmetic Patch for fiberglass boat

From the looks of it I think you can grab the edge of the glass with some pliers and pull it off.

You should start over after reading some threads here on the subject, it will be easier than trying to improve or hide what you have on there now.
