Cost of carb rebuild?

I have a 2003 50hp ELPTO that I am guessing could use a carb adjustment, cleaning and/rebuild kit. Due to a new baby (and my usual tendency to screw "detail" jobs up) I figure I would take it in a let a pro do it.

Assuming worst case scenario....full clean and rebuild, what is the typical cost of this job?

thanks!

PS - if it helps, the motor is running fine, just a slight hesistation from time to time.

I was told average of $75.00 per carb at a local dealer in Chicago, I am sure it depends on the region. Good luck

two carbs and two fuel pumps cost me just shy of $1000 no it's not a joke. the only joke was that they are still in business.

$1,000.00. Wow. Last time I rebuilt the carbs on my old Chrysler OB, I think the rebuild kits were around $75.00 for all three carbs. I'm an accountant by trade so I go SLOW when twisting wrenches, it took me about 3 hours to do the job. One hour to take apart, blow out with air compressor and soak in carb cleaner. 2 or so hours and a few four letter words to put back together. And that also included replacing all the fuel lines and clamps. After I got it put back together and it ran, I was pretty pleased with myself.

If your motor is running fine, then just drain each carb and with plugs out pump primer bulb to flush float chamber, replace plugs. Then run a strong Seafoam mix through your motor and you should be good to go! Good Luck!

Re: Cost of carb rebuild?

Just wanted to post an update. After a few months of putting up with a slight hesitation when getting up on plane, I decided to take it in to the shop.

Some suggested my problems where carb related....float level perhaps....as the issue was normally with motor trimmed all the way down. I also never really paid attention to an issue with idle. I chalked it up as normal. It would run fine....then made a "chunk" sound, almost stall, then idle fine again. I ran a high concentration of Seafoam through it first and while I noticed a little improvement, it still had the issue.

I have change 2 water pumps in my life, so I know how to do it, but thought I would have the shop do it this time while it was in there.

Water pump $91.50
Inspect, clean, adjust carbs - replace fuel filter and 3 needles. $180
(all pre-tax)

I haven't had a chance to water test it, but it runs FANTASTIC in the driveway! Once again, I never paid attention to the idle issue until it was fixed!!! Very, very smooth. I should be able to put it in the water in new few weeks. I have very high confidence that the issue is resolved.
