I have a 97 Chaparral Signature 24. One of the freeze plugs toward the center of the motor popped out over the winter. I am wondering what an average rebuild for a frozen block might set me back?
I agree......you have plenty of options. First and for most I would get the motor pulled ASAP. Your going to do it anyway so might as well do it now. Secondly, I would locate all the numbers. Engine serial number, model number, and most importantly the block casting number. (THIS COULD BE THE MOST IMPORTANT NUMBER OF ALL). It will be the tell tale of all information need for an exact replacement.
There's a ton of extra work you can do while she's apart to. Some extra funding will be involved for materials but most is just labor. She will look new when your done. Check out my latest thread. I'm doing a small reconstruction on my 1990 Carver Montego. From engine rebuild to transom shield clean up and replacement. Not sure if it will help but worth a look perhaps.
