Re: cost to rebuild

here is a website to give you some sort of idea as to the price of the required parts, as far labor rates go you would have to check your local repair shop/marina for a quote. I know the labor rates at my local marina stem anywheres from $40.00 to $90.00 an hour for general service and sometimes even more depending.

Jay, tell us exactly what you mean by rebuilding the crank and 1 rod. Are they damaged? If the crank and 1 rod needs to be replaced, along with all the standard machine work for a rebuild, you may be money ahead to buy a replacement powerhead from iboats. There are places that can supply used cranks and rods as another alternative too.

Around NE its $2400 for 4 cylinders , $3600 for 6 cylinder complete overhaul.

Try removing sparkplugs, bring ea piston to TDC , hold a dowel on top of the piston and rock it back and forth thru TDC. Roll it just past TDC and push the dowel down as you lock the flywheel in place, if theres slop you'll see it.

You could do it yourself for around $500....or less.
