ok if you read any of my other post you know i just got my boat running fist time out i never really looked behind me but lastnight i took it out (well before dark) and i noticed that water was spraying up at the back of the boat not like a rooster tail but like a spatter comming up just behind the transom (boat is a 1980 four winns 180 marquise 470 pre alpha 1) i noticed that the prop is pretty chewd up and one of the blades has a small bend in it, if i can find my camera i will post a pic of the prop. any help will be great

Prop isn't likely causing spray but a damaged prop will cause premature gearcase problems. You need a prop repair or replacement. The second pic shows something like a coil of wire at the bottom of the transom perhaps that is the problem.

One thing I can tell you is that the prop needs to be replaced - like now !
Tilt your lower unit all the way down while still on the trailer - see if those trims lines don't drop down below the waterline - might be as steelespike mentioned.

Perhaps someone can decifer those numbers.I would suggest repair your prop and get us the new numbers, can't tell much from that prop. you can always use it for a spare if you need a change. The prop shop can tell you the diameter and pitch too.

Have you looked down the back to see where the spray could be coming from when it is occurring?
I doubt it the prop although you need to fix it.
Mine started doing this after a bellows kit was replaced this year. It looks like a bolt is deflecting water upwards. Perhaps one was replaced with another too long? Dunno, but it was easy to spot underway.

Prop needs fixing. Out of balance = excessive wear.

Pretty sure a repair will cost less than new and then you will have an accurate reading to make a decesion on a prop change if necessary. Of course you can run the repaired prop if your happy with the performance.
