... for my marriage, anyway. I went to an auction over the weekend that had advertised about 20 boats and 30 motors, plus a bunch of trailers and miscellaneous. I ended up coming home with one boat and a few boxes of the miscellaneous. I think I paid the most of any boat there - $50! Most of the boats were going for $10-$20. Some had clean titles, some didn't. Some needed a good weekend's worth of cleaning and minor repairs, some needed a Sawzall. As it was, I was sorely tempted to put bids in one four or five other boats, but didn't.
They had 15-foot Starcraft aluminum runabouts, c.late 1960s going for $10. A 1964 Larson runabout with 35hp Merc for $20. A 18-foot Dorsett runabout with MerCruiser went for $15. A PennYan with OMC power went for $10. Ohhh, the temptation....
The one I DID buy is a 1982 Sea Sprite tri-hull open bow. It had the remnants of a 1984 Johnson 90hp with PT&T on it. No lower unit and bits and pieces of a blown powerhead. The boat is solid, but quite dirty with leaves and twigs. The upholstery isn't bad - could probably get away with replacing some of the under-boards and restapling where needed. Should be a good winter project - on top of the 18-foot Starcraft I bought last Spring.
Should have pics soon...
- Scott
