i have a 225hp mercruiser to a mcm-a transmission to a mercruiser genII outdrive. in the lower bell housing that the prop shaft goes into, what holds all of that together? we had to really belt the old prop to get it off and we accidentally pulled the prop shaft out about 3/4" , when we installed the replacement prop, we thought we got everything pushed back in as far as possible. when in the water, with the wieght of the boat, when we put it into rev. did we pull something back out?

Unfortunately, your screen name is apropos. The carrier assembly and other components should hold the shaft in place with minimal play. One quarter inch may be a problem depending on which part most contributes to the problem. A number of parts could be problematic, even if the Carrier assembly is securely in place. You'll need a rebuild, look toward many of the parts behind the carrier. If you put in reverse, crunched things and then experienced "boatdontmove"...you might have snapped the sliding clutch and cross pin, and more. Pushing in the shaft won't do it...start the tear down. Sorry....

i've been searching the web to find an exploded diagram of my outdrive, any suggestions on where to look? there is and was no grinding noises, so hopefully theres not alot of metal down there.
