Couple more questions on VRO removal

I've taken the VRO pump and carbs off my motor and have a couple of questions.

In the following picture, you can see the pulse air port off of the crank case, but what is the blue and gold thing connected to the air line? It was installed between the pump and the crankcase.

The next question is would there be any problems with disconnecting the VRO wires from the terminal block?

the blue thing is the pulse limiter. It protects the fuel pump from backfire pressure from the crank case.

I'm not sure which electrical connections you're talking about, but the basic procedure for discontinuing the oil mixing is to simply disconnect the wires coming off the pump. Usually there's a wire harness with several wires coming off the pump (mine has 4) that ends in a rubber plug which connects to a corresponding rubber plug coming from the engine. You simply unplug those wires.

Thanks about the pulse limiter. As for the wires I'm talking about, it is the one you disconnect. As far as I see, those wires simply go back to the terminal block. (its the disconnected set of wires in the picture). I know I can just leave it disconnected, but I like cleaning things up and removing things that aren't needed.

The next question is how can I check this pulse limiter, or where can I get another one? I've looked the the BRP site and can't find something by this name.

Still can't find anything about ordering a new pulse limiter. Anyone have any leads?

Re: Couple more questions on VRO removal

I found this inspection procedure. I guess if it passes, I'll continue using this one.

Pulselimiter.jpg

INSPECT PULSE LIMITER

NOTE If excessive carbon deposits are found, the engine should be checked for other causes of backfiring.

1. Inspect exterior of pulse limiter for cracks in plastic and metal housings. If damage is found, replace pulse limiter.

2. Inspect the inside of the pulse limiter for carbon deposits. CLEAN CARBON FROM PULSE LIMITER.

1. If excessive carbon is found, backflush pulse limiter with carbon removing compound.

2. If carbon cannot be removed with carbon removing compound, replace pulse limiter.

I cleaned the pulse limiter as described above and it appears to be alright.

As for the wiring on the VRO, I traced all of the wires and I don't see how its possible to remove the unused cable without affecting something else. I'll just roll it up and zip tie it out of the way.

Re: Couple more questions on VRO removal

My PM to FBPirate95 was that I have two brand new pulse limiters that I'd be happy to give away - one each of the "inline" and "screw-in" types that came with a fuel pump I recently got. I needed neither, since I had just installed a new blue one to replace the original black one when I acquired my 1990 J200. I would be happy to mail them to anyone who needs them, gratis. I'd rather do that than toss them or have them sit for 20 years in my "box of stuff" if you know what I mean. Just PM me with your mailing address and which one you want.
