Changing water pump on 1987 Johnson 88 SPL. Also Changed the gasket on the gear shift housing. the Gasket came with 2 kinda fat o-rings. I don't know where they go, or the height the rod is supposed to be at. Are these O-rings included for other years. the gasket is a perfect fit, just don't know where the o-rings belong there is no recess in the housing to fit or o-ring to remove nor on the top either. The diagram shows an o-ring though. Also on the water pump kit between the impellor plate and impellor the instructions have an o-ring in fact the instructions have you hold the key in place with the o-ring and there is a recess in the brass collar of the impellor, is this a new feature? on the parts diagram on Evinrude.com it has no o-ring. The water pump kit parts fit excatly also just seems there are extra parts.I'm just nervous don't want to mess up anything, this is my first water pump replacement. Also when I bought this boat the only engine identifier I could find was the chrome round disk on the engine(no plate) it read E88MSLCUS. The first letter indicates an Evinrude yet I have a Johnson. What year did they merge?
