Morning all I purchased a Eagle Cuda 350 S/map form my boat...... What a book that thing has lol ...... Any how I have a couple of questions about the install ..........

# 1 ---- Transducer wire , The book says you can drill a 5/8" hole in Transom to run wire through ...... Is this a common practice for folks to drill holes in their boat ? Are there any pros and cons to doing this ?

#2 My boat is an 1986 model should I wire the units power to the acc toggle switch labeled on my dash for depth / navigation or wire it directly to the battery and used the newer style inline fuse versus the older round glass fuse linked with my acc switch on the dash ?

#3 Finally has anyone had any experiences with the Eagle Cuda 350 S/Map unit . This is the first unit I have purchased and was suprised at the price of this unit versus others I researched ....

Sorry for being so long winded any help and advice is appreciated Thanks in advanced ....

Is there not an ON/OFF switch on the unit?? If there is, why do you want it wired to another switch? Wire it to a 12 volt source and ground. If you insist on wiring it to a separate switch, it should be to the MASTER switch that many newer boats have. This kills everything connected to it so there is little chance of anything being left powered when you leave the boat. But then if you forget to turn stuff off anyway, you will likely forget to turn off the MASTER switch as well. As for the transducer cable you have three choices: 1) Transom mount with a hole well above the water line through it for the cable. 2) Transom mount with the cable routed up and over the transom. 3) Shoot through hull installation. Drilling a hole in the transom is not an issue if the hole is sealed well. There are a number of cable covers that dress up that area. Like this one:

Thanks alot Silvertip ............ One other question was looking at the back of the boat and the old transducer bracket is mounted directly behind the lower unit on my outdrive on the bottom of the boat is this the correct spot to mount a transducer or does it need to be off to the side ? The old unit was a humming bird LCR400 Thanks Again

The transducer should not be directly ahead of the outdrive and prop. Better to be 12 to 18 inches to starboard. A good location is near your Pitot Tube if you have one.

If you have an old Humming Bird why not use the same hole that it used for the transducer Cable?

Because the previous owner didnt drill a hole for transducer cable guess he ran it up over the transom
