Couple of trim questions

Hey guys, couple of quickies. 1995 Sea Ray 180, Mercruiser Alpha 1, 4.3L V6.

I didn't feel like I was getting enough up trim out of my outdrive, so I decided to adjust my limit switch. Question, how much up trim is too much? I've got the limit switch maxed out and it's just now looking like it trims up enough. Don't want to take it out on the water and do any damage though.

Second, I think the range on my trim indicator is off. Going through the full range of trim, I only use about half the gauge. If I set it so it shows full down trim properly, it only displays about half way up when I hit my up limit. If I set it so it shows full up when I'm trimmed fully up, it shows about half trim when I'm trimmed all the way down. Is there a way to adjust this?

Thanks.

Re: Couple of trim questions

Well I found my answer to the "how far is too far" question regarding my trim in the maintenance manual.

I was right and wrong. The limit switch was set incorrectly at first, but my visual guess would have been wrong too. Where I had it set, the trim cylinders were extending about an inch too far. Got it squared away now so they are ~20 5/8", just under the 20 3/4" limit.

Still not sure what to do about the trim indicator.
