little bit of water in gearcase, new drain & vent plug washers didn't help.

If I'm reading this manual correctly, seal replacement doesn't require removal of propshaft or driveshaft - but the bearing housings have to come out - does that sound about right? Or do you always completely disassemble & inspect in cases like this......it's not making metal, and who can afford all those "special tools" - must be 3 dozen!

When the L/U came off I noticed the driveshaft grommet (top of water pump) was displaced, about half-way up the shaft......doesn't appear that would cause any problems....right? or did I miss something last impeller change?

also, any tips on freeing a stuck prop thrust washer?

thanks!

I would pressurize it and spray it down with dish soap and water. It may just be a prop shaft seal or something not to difficult to repair.
The thrust washer should pop off like TD said,a little PB let it set then tap with the hammer.Grease it up good when you put it back together..;)

JT, just a thought, Im unsure of where you are located, but do you by chance run in salt water at all?? The fact that you mentioned the displaced housing grommet made me think of your drive shaft seal, which sits under the water pump and water stands on that particular seal, leaving mineral deposits or salt if you run in the ocean, which will eventually corrode or wear the chrome. The rough surface produced eats up seals quickly and lets the amount of water in like you are experiencing. If this turns out to be true a new drive shaft may be in order or you could have a shop turn the drive shaft and polish the seal surface. Just a thought I got from reading a previous thread earlier about water intrusion on here.
