Ford 302, 1974, Merc225s: Two questions: 1) when installing the new coupler is it OK to reuse the nuts and spring washers? and 2) should the studs be coated with anything such as grease? Thank You in advance.
Using the spring wasters and nuts is OK as long as the nuts are still acting like lock nuts which they are. If you can put them on only a few threads before you need a wrench, then they are ok and the "lock" part of the nut is working.
I still put a few drops of loctite 571 or other permmanent type on them.I use gel seal on the bell housing bolts as well. dont like anything there coming loose. its usually a pain to access to fix a loose fastener.
