Coutout Shape of Outdrive Hole...

I have a 1993 Chric Craft Concept BR 217 with a 5.0 L OMC Cobra. I am getting ready to re-install the outdrive after replacing the transom. I just remembered that the old cut out had a round area cut out at the top on both sides like the factory ran a big drill at the top two corners of the cutout. After looking at the transom bracket, I was wondering if these were for clearance of the steering arm that comes through the transom... Any thoughts?

Yes they are - look like little Mickey Mouse ears.

Re: Coutout Shape of Outdrive Hole...

Thanks! I couldn't put my finger on that shape, "Mickey Mouse" ears are perfect... I guess it is good that I found out now before putting it all back together... I am sick of drilling, cutting, and sanding. I am going to break out the grinder with a sanding disc and try to shape me some "ears"... Thanks again!
