Hi All,

I've just come across this:

Filter Cover.jpg

How long do these clear bowls on Racor etc filters actually serve when permanently exposed to direct sunlight all season long? I've just bought myself a B32013 and am now thinking if it's a good idea to make a similar cover to avoid having to replace the bowl now and then.

I know it's somewhat funny but still )

Many thanks,
Dmitriy

Well, I never heard of a bowl failing. Could discolor over the years, I suppose, though I haven't heard of that either.

My gut tells me the manufacturer of the cheapie filter uses inferior material to manufacture the unit.... which is why it degrades in sunlight.

JoLin:

That makes sense indeed, so Racor ones should not degrade as they are supposed to be high quality ones.

Let's now see if we get any replies reporting degraded clear plastic bowls for particular filter makes/models.

Most applications for the see through bowls are big trucks or equipment with diesel engines. (water separator)

They are usually mounted on the frame under the cab area or in the engine compartment, so they do not see alot of sun, just grease and grime

Ayuh,.... Must be ya got an Outboard,...

Clear bowls aren't allowed in closed motor boxes....in boats of course...

You can get the metal canister style filters with a drain petcock, as well as not, just harder to find...

Re: Covers for filters with clear bowls

Well I do like my clear bowl as it lets me see the level of water as opposed to guessing it with a metal bowl.

My filter is mounted on one of the splashwell walls.
