There's a crack extending from the back of the prop up about 2" on the lower unit. It's not leaking, should I try to have it welded?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Crack in Yamaha 225 lower unit

The housing has corroded and will eventually split and spit the shaft and related parts out into the water. Very difficult to weld due to the silicone content of the housing and only a temporary repair when welded.

Re: Crack in Yamaha 225 lower unit

Thanks Ray,

I sure didn't like to hear the part about the parts going into the water. Maybe I should get a new housing before that happens.I've never owned a boat before and the previous owner assured me it's been like that for 3 years and HE'D never had any problems with it. Looks like it's been welded once before but it's split again. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks again for the help.
