Cracked block or just cylinder head??

Well I got another project boat really cheap and had a lot of potential until I started it for the first time.

Started up and ran good until water started pouring out both sides if the engine! I knew there was a problem somewhere snce there was water in the oil when i changed it before starting, but was hidden. One side has a crack on the cylinder head, the other side was just coming from the plug that had popped out.

Before I drop it off at a shop this winter to get repowered with a new block or motor, could it be as simple as replacing just the cylinder head?? Or would there be more damage and a new block or engine the only option??

The crack appeard to be only on the cylinder head just above where the manifold bolts on??

If the heads cracked, most likely block cracked too

Ayuh,.... It appears to have frozen with water in it,...

Odds are the whole motor is junk,.....

Another question guys, on this motor can i remove the head without removing the intake manifold???

Without knowing what motor it is, hard to say, but generally not since the manifold typically bolts to the head and block...

Ayuh,.... It appears to be a 4.3l, so a V-motor, so Nope, the intakes gotta come off 1st,.....

Its highly unlikely, but if you are lucky enough to not have a cracked block then you can just replace a head ,.. But I would def pressure test the block.

The block core plug is pushed out in one photo. The head is cracked in one photo. Basically it's what happens when a block is not drained.

Block and heads are toast for anything except scrap iron
