Cracked block: update...

As you may recall, I discovered this Spring that I had a cracked block. This Saturday I picked up the boat after I had gotten it replaced. I must say, it sounds great and runs smoother than before (just on a flush kit when I picked it up). What is nice is it comes with a two year warranty. One question is, when I raise and lower the outdrive (Yamaha), at certain points it makes a rubbing sound; it does the same thing at certain points when I turn the wheel. The guy said it was the gimbal bearing, it needed some grease and he showed me where/how to grease it. Does that seem right? He did say that if I had any problems to let him know. I think it did this slightly before, but just a bit more noticable now. Thanks!

If the gimbal bearing is making noise because it's bad, adding grease is not going to help it. You need to pull the drive and check the bearing, if it's bad and you run it it can destroy the housing.

When the engine was replaced, the drive was pulled and the bearing was fine. That is something I asked the mechanic when I picked it up.

Well, I took the boat out today to start the break in process. All was well, was. I noticed major oil leaking from the engine, but I couldn't tell where. Back to the shop it goes.
