Hi all I need some advice. I have a yam 60hp 1994 . Getting it ready and general maintenance today and found a crack in the gearbox casing just in front of the prop and about 10 cm long . My question is can this be repaired. (Tiger welded) or is it scrap. It is not leaking but do not want it to let me down . Thanks in advance.

A photo would help but it may be welded up by a good aluminum welder....heli-arc I believe is what they use.....if motor has been used in saltwater the corrosion may have taken place between that bearing carrier and the case and caused an expansion crack....But your motor is over 30 years old and a weld may buy several more years of useful service...hopefully...

If its not leaking, you may be lucky and the crack is not affecting the o-ring surface. I would tig it...

Maybe sand/remove the paint from around the crack to try and determine how bad it is....a weld might work...but the heat from the welding could damage the O ring seal inside there...
