Hi, I,ve got a 1993 40 hp force that i cracked when i hit a sunken log (? ). its now got a crack in the main case(part between the powerhead and the lowerunit) between the water vents on both sides. I need to know the proper term for the case and any ideas on where to find a used one. thanks for your help

Re: cracked force

Oh ya, i've also thought of trying to have it welded, any thoughts on that?

Sure it'll weld. If it's not to bad, you just might fix it with JB Weld.

c/6

Hooty

Re: cracked force

JBWeld, its an epoxy?? type putty that bonds to most surfaces, and hardens up like steel. Available at hardware store.

Hit so hard it cracked the exhaust housing? JBweld that sucker? LOL...why not just a piece of duct tape? That would hold just about as well.

I cracked my lower unit on my 150 hp force and had it welded .It's still holding up.
If I was you I wouldn't use the JBWELD if you want it fixed, fix it right the first time.

Re: cracked force

I have used jbweld, it actually works. as for using it on a motor that if it fails, leaves me stranded, well I would have to think about that.

it the a failure of the patch would not leaving me stranded I would consider using it. it cost about 5 $ and is fairly easy to use.

Re: cracked force

JBWeld claims about 4000psi tensile strength and operating temperature to 300 deg C. That's pretty good for an epoxy. However, a good weld in aluminium should be good for up to 30000psi, and a much higher working temperature to boot. There's a time and a place for JBWeld, but usually only large bond area, lowish temperature, lowish strength applications.
